‘Being a Conscious Consumer can be simple’

‘Being a Conscious Consumer can be as simple as picking a different chocolate bar to put in the stocking.

According to the World Cocoa Foundation, an estimated 40 to 50 million people worldwide depend on cocoa for their livelihood. Most are from small family farms, vulnerable to low market prices despite being the highest quality cocoa bean.

As a result, farming families are forced to send their children to work on the farms, keeping them out of school and lowering their chances of pursuing other goals.

“When making a difference at Christmas is as simple as giving a different chocolate bar, we all can chip in” said Sarah Robbins, chair of Fair Trade Huronia.
